Sand or Soil for Leveling and Topdressing a Lawn?
For leveling and topdressing, use Sandy Soil Mix or USGA sand, spread about 1/4 inch at a time so the grass shows through. Fix deep dips with soil and resod.

Use certified engineered wood fiber, not regular bed mulch. Install about 12 inches so it holds around 9 after it settles. 200 sq ft at 12 inches takes about 8 yards.

Use angular crushed rock with fines, 6 inches of compacted base like 1" crushed limestone or flex base, then a 2-inch crushed top coat. Skip pea gravel.
