SOD CALCULATOR: How much sod do I need?

Measure the lawn, get square feet and pallets. One pallet covers 450 sq ft.

HOW TO MEASURE

    Walk the perimeter.

    Use a long tape, a measuring wheel, or your stride (one walking step ≈ 2.5–3 ft). Mark corners with a stake or a flag so you don't lose your spot.

    Break it into rectangles.

    Most lawns are L-shapes or rectangles with a bite taken out. Draw it on paper, slice it into rectangles, measure each, add them up. Subtract anything you're NOT sodding — driveway, patio, flower beds.

  3. 3
    Round up to the next pallet.

    A pallet covers ~450 sq ft. Buying a full pallet is cheaper per square yard than cut pieces and you'll have extras for shady spots that die out later.

IRREGULAR SHAPES

Curving lawn edges add up to almost nothing on a normal yard. Estimate the curve as if it were straight and you'll be within 2%. Triangle? Length × width ÷ 2. Circle? 3.14 × radius² (radius = half the diameter).
