What it is
A pallet of TifSport Bermuda sod (450 sq ft). Golf-tournament-grade hybrid Bermuda — bred for ultra-low mowing heights and the dense playing surface required for high-end sports turf.
When TifSport is right
TifSport is for one specific customer: someone who wants golf-green-quality turf and is willing to mow with a reel mower at 3/4" cut height.
Common use cases:
- Backyard putting greens. Real practice green for serious golfers.
- Home croquet or bocce lawns. Where surface uniformity matters.
- Tennis-adjacent turf — high-end residential properties.
- High-end residential where the owner wants a manicured look.
- Sports field tees and approach areas at small clubs.
For a normal residential lawn at standard 1.5-2" rotary-mower height, TifSport is overkill — Tifway 419 or Celebration are better fits and don't require a reel mower investment.
Mowing requirement (read first)
TifSport must be mowed at 3/4" or below with a reel mower for best appearance. A rotary mower at 1.5"+ will scalp TifSport unevenly — the dense growth pattern doesn't handle high-cut rotary blades. Reel-mower-level commitment is required.
If you don't own a reel mower and aren't planning to buy one, choose a different Bermuda.

Install
Same prep as other Bermudas, with one upgrade — TifSport benefits from a deeper soil prep (3-4 inches of Premium Soil Mix) for the dense root system to establish properly.
Establishment time: 3-4 weeks at standard install temps. Maintenance mowing should not start until after the first 2-3 weeks of root establishment.
Care
- Mowing: reel mower, 3/4"-1" cut, 2-3x per week in growing season
- Fertilizer: standard 21-7-14 in spring and fall, plus monthly light fertilizer applications during growing season for golf-grade color
- Top-dressing: annual application of USGA-spec sand keeps surface smoothness golf-quality
- Aeration: core-aerate annually in early summer
Buying tips
- Limited availability — pre-order by 10 days for big jobs.
- Confirm you have a reel mower or can rent one. Without it, you'll be disappointed.
- Pair with USGA-spec sand for ongoing top-dressing.
