What it is
USGA-spec fine washed sand — finer and more uniformly graded than masonry sand. Sold by the ton. Engineered for golf course bunkers and high-end turf top-dressing applications.
What it is for
- Golf course bunkers. The USGA-spec standard. Drains predictably, packs to consistent firmness, won't wash out in heavy rain.
- High-end turf top-dressing. For fine-cut turf (golf greens, sports fields, premium home lawns) where surface smoothness matters.
- Sports field finishing. Top course on baseball mounds and home plate areas where fine-grained smoothness is required.
- Bermuda and Zoysia lawn leveling. Fill in low spots, even out the surface after sprinkler repairs.
- Sand-cap installs. Some sports fields use a sand-cap layer over native soil for drainage and firmness.

For most residential turf work, half a ton to a ton per application is enough. Bigger projects (sports fields, golf installs) scale up to multiple tons.

Buying tips
- Apply turf top-dressing dry. Wet sand clumps and won't distribute through a top-dresser machine.
- For residential lawn leveling: spread 1/4" max per application — letting the grass blades stay above the sand surface. Multiple light apps work better than one heavy one.
- Order the right size: bunker installs are typically 4-6" of sand depth, multi-ton orders. Lawn top-dressing is half-ton applications.
