What it is
A pallet of Latitude 36 Bermuda sod (450 sq ft). Oklahoma State University-bred for cold tolerance and improved winter color retention — the Bermuda for the cooler northern edge of the DFW area.
What makes Latitude 36 different
OSU bred Latitude 36 specifically for transition-zone conditions where Bermuda has historically struggled:
- Greens up earlier in spring (1-2 weeks ahead of Tifway 419).
- Stays green later in fall (1-2 weeks past Tifway 419 dormancy).
- Survives harder winter freezes — better recovery after the kind of February freezes DFW gets occasionally (think February 2021).
- Wear and drought tolerance comparable to Tifway 419.
Net: 2-4 more weeks of green lawn per year in the DFW area.
When Latitude 36 is the right pick
- Northern DFW — Denton, North Fort Worth, Argyle, Roanoke. Cooler microclimate where standard Bermudas dormancy reaches further into spring.
- Lawn is in low-lying frost-pocket areas where cold settles.
- You hate the dormant winter look of standard Bermuda and want more green months per year.
- Open exposed lots with no tree canopy where wind chills the soil faster in fall.
For southern DFW (south Fort Worth, Crowley, Burleson, Mansfield), Tifway 419 or TifTuf are slightly better fits — warmer microclimates make the cold-tolerance advantage less valuable.

Install
Same prep-and-install pattern as other Bermudas — Premium Soil Mix, grade, water, lay tight, roll, water deeply for the first week.
Latitude 36 establishes at typical Bermuda rates — 2-3 weeks to full root.
Care
Mowing height 1-2", weekly in growing season. Standard 21-7-14 fertilizer in spring and fall. Latitude 36 has slightly higher fertility tolerance than Tifway — won't scorch with the spring/fall app even at the upper end of the rate.
Buying tips
- Best installed in spring (April-May) to take full advantage of the early-green-up window in the first season.
- Pair with TifGrand or similar balanced fertilizer.
- Slightly less broadly available than Tifway 419 — pre-order by 7 days for large jobs.
