What it is
A pallet of Empire Zoysia sod (450 sq ft). Fine-bladed Zoysia — softer feel underfoot than Palisades, comparable shade tolerance, premium look.
When Empire is the right pick
- Barefoot-priority lawns. You spend time on the grass — kids playing, picnics, summer evenings. Empire's fine blade is the softest underfoot of any sod we carry except Emerald.
- Premium residential aesthetic — Empire reads more refined than Palisades at a slightly higher price point.
- Partial shade (4-5 hours sun) where you want both shade tolerance and the premium look.
- Pool surrounds and entertainment areas where the grass is part of the design.
For all-purpose shade Zoysia, Palisades is more cost-effective. Empire is the upgrade.

Install
Same Zoysia install pattern — Premium Soil Mix for prep, grade, water, lay tight, roll, water deep. Full establishment 3-4 weeks.
Care
- Mow height: 1-1.5" (Empire prefers slightly lower than Palisades to show off the fine blade)
- Frequency: every 7-10 days in growing season
- Fertilizer: standard 21-7-14, spring and fall
- Water: deep but infrequent — Empire develops deep roots
Buying tips
- Empire pallets are net-wrapped (vs strap on Bermuda).
- For most residential lawns, the visual difference between Empire and Palisades is subtle. The barefoot-feel difference is more pronounced.
- Pair with TifGrand-style fertilizer for the premium color payoff.
