When Emerald is the right pick

For everyday residential use, Palisades is the cost-effective Zoysia choice. Emerald is the premium upgrade.
Trade-offs:
- Most expensive Zoysia we carry.
- Slowest to establish (4-5 weeks).
- Mowing more frequent — Emerald looks best at 1" or below.
- Limited grower availability — pre-order required.

Install
Same as other Zoysias, with extra soil prep — 2-3 inches of Premium Soil Mix tilled in for the dense root system. Patient watering schedule (daily for 14-17 days for full establishment).
Care
- Mow height: 3/4" to 1" — reel mower preferred for the cleanest cut
- Frequency: weekly in growing season (Emerald is dense enough that less-frequent mowing scalps it)
- Fertilizer: premium turf program; the standard 21-7-14 works but the premium look benefits from a targeted fertility schedule
- Top-dress: annual USGA-spec sand application for surface smoothness
Buying tips
- Limited availability — pre-order 10-14 days ahead. Don't expect last-minute orders.
- Confirm mowing commitment — at 2"+ mowing height, Emerald loses its visual differentiation from Palisades. Pay for Emerald only if you're going to maintain it properly.
- Best installed late spring (May) for the fullest first-season establishment.
