What it is
Rip rap is rough, angular stone used to stop erosion where water runs. This is the smaller rip rap size, about 4 to 8 inch pieces, sold by the ton. The broken faces lock together, so the stone stays put when water moves over it.
What it is for
- Drainage ditches and swales. Line the channel so runoff does not cut it deeper.
- Downspout and culvert outfalls. Spread out the water where a pipe empties.
- Creek and pond banks. Protect the edge from wash-outs.
- French drain outlets. Finish the end of a French drain so it does not erode.
For a decorative dry creek bed, rounded Sabine river rock, 4 to 8 inch looks softer. Rip rap is the working stone.
How much to order
