What it is
Tumbled concrete paver in the classic Holland brick format — 6 inches by 9 inches, approximately 2-3/8 inches thick. Sold by the each. The tumbled finish gives the edges a slightly worn, antique look — softer than a sharp-edge paver.
What it is for
The default paver for most DFW residential paver patios and driveways. Holland format works in running-bond pattern (the classic brick layout), herringbone, basket-weave, or stack-bond. Easy to lay, predictable, friendly to DIY.
Common installs:
- Backyard patios (200-600 sq ft)
- Front walkways
- Pool decks (excellent for pool surrounds — bare-foot friendly tumbled finish)
- Driveways (with proper compacted base, Holland pavers are vehicle-rated)
- Fire-pit perimeters and seat-walls
For a smaller, more European-looking paver, see the 5x7 Cobble paver.
How much do I need
About 4.5 pavers per square foot (running bond, standard joint width). Add 5% for cuts:
| Patio size | Pieces needed |
|---|---|
| 100 sq ft | 470 |
| 200 sq ft | 945 |
| 400 sq ft | 1,890 |
| 800 sq ft | 3,780 |
| 1,200 sq ft | 5,670 |
The paver patio wizard computes piece count plus the leveling sand bed plus polymeric joint sand.
Pavers vs flagstone
| Holland/Cobble Pavers | Oklahoma Flagstone | |
|---|---|---|
| Look | Uniform, geometric | Organic, hand-fit |
| DIY-friendly | Yes — modular | Harder — every piece is cut |
| Install speed | Fast | Slow |
| Cost per sq ft installed | $9-14 | $14-22 |
| Surface temp summer | Hotter (concrete absorbs heat) | Cooler |
| Joint sealing | Polymeric, easy | Polymeric, irregular joints |
For a weekend DIY project, pavers are friendlier. For a hand-crafted look that will be there for generations, flagstone.
Install (high level)
- Excavate 6-8 inches.
- Compact 4-6 inches of crushed limestone base in 2" lifts.
- Lay 1" of paver leveling sand. Screed flat.
- Lay pavers in your pattern. Snap chalk lines for the first course.
- Install steel edging around the perimeter — keeps pavers from migrating.
- Sweep polymeric joint sand into joints, plate-compact, mist, done.
Buying tips
- Order 5% extra for cuts. Wider patios with curves need 10%.
- Check the dye lot on the pallets — pavers from different production runs can have slight color variation.
- Plan delivery 24 hours before install. Spread pallets around the perimeter for shortest carry runs.
Contractor notes
Sold each — palletized at ~600 pieces per pallet. Volume pricing at 5 pallets. Match-lot delivery on multi-pallet orders if you specify at order time.
