What it is
Tumbled concrete paver in 5x7 inch Cobble format, approximately 2-3/8 inches thick. Sold each. Smaller and slightly more square than the Holland 6x9 — same tumbled finish, different scale.
What it is for
Patios and walkways with an older, European-cobblestone look. The smaller piece size works better than Holland for:
- Curved patios and walkways — small pieces follow gentle curves with less cutting.
- Mixed-pattern installs — Cobble can be laid in a true random-pattern fan with multiple piece sizes (mix with Holland for a classic European cobblestone pattern).
- Smaller patio footprints — under 200 sq ft. Holland's larger format can look chunky on a small patio; Cobble keeps the scale right.
- Driveway aprons and edges. The smaller piece gives a more refined edge transition.
How much do I need
About 4.1 pavers per square foot. Add 5-10% for cuts (more on curved layouts):
| Patio size | Pieces needed |
|---|---|
| 100 sq ft | 430 |
| 200 sq ft | 860 |
| 400 sq ft | 1,720 |
| 600 sq ft | 2,580 |
The paver patio wizard defaults to 4.5 pcs/sq ft (Holland math) — for Cobble, adjust slightly downward or just order to the wizard estimate and have a small leftover.
Cobble vs Holland
| Cobble 5x7 | Holland 6x9 | |
|---|---|---|
| Look | European, mixed-pattern friendly | Classic running-bond brick |
| Patio scale fit | Small/medium | Medium/large |
| Curves | Easier | Harder — more cuts |
| Install speed | Slightly slower (more pieces) | Faster |
| Cost per sq ft | Comparable | Comparable |
Both work in the same install pattern — same base, same sand bed, same polymeric joints.
Install (same as Holland)
- Excavate 6-8 inches.
- Compact 4-6 inches of crushed limestone base.
- Lay 1" of paver leveling sand. Screed flat.
- Lay pavers in your pattern.
- Steel edging around perimeter.
- Polymeric joint sand into joints, plate-compact, mist.
For a fan/random pattern, lay it out on graph paper first. Random patterns look random only when planned.
Buying tips
- Mix with Holland on the same patio for a true European cobblestone effect — about 70% Cobble and 30% Holland, laid random.
- Order 10% extra for curved layouts.
- Plate-compactor needs a rubber pad to protect the tumbled surface during seating.
Contractor notes
Palletized — about 700 pieces per pallet. Volume break on 5+ pallets.
