What it is
Decomposed granite in pink/rose-red tones — same material as standard DG but from a different mine that yields a warmer color. Sold by the ton. Sometimes called "pink DG" or "Texas pink."
When to choose Texas Blush over standard DG
This is a color call. Texas Blush is the right pick when:
- You want decorative contrast. Pink DG against gray limestone, white concrete, or charcoal hardscape pops.
- The bed has red-toned plants — crepe myrtles, Mexican petunia, salvia greggii. The color ties the planting to the surface.
- Mediterranean / Spanish-style architecture. Pink DG reads warm and Mediterranean against stucco and terracotta.
- You're building a feature path. Front-entry walkways, courtyard surrounds, focal-point areas.
For standard, all-purpose paths in any color palette, standard DG is the safer default. Texas Blush is the design choice.
How much do I need
Same coverage as standard DG — 80 sq ft per ton at 2" depth:
| Path/area size | Tons needed |
|---|---|
| 100 sq ft | 1.25 |
| 200 sq ft | 2.5 |
| 500 sq ft | 6.5 |
| 1,000 sq ft | 12.5 |
The path wizard calculates DG/Blush plus the base course plus edging plus fabric.
Install (same as standard DG)
- Excavate, lay fabric, compact 2-4" of limestone base.
- Install steel or BendaBoard edging.
- Spread 2" of Texas Blush.
- Mist with water, compact with a plate compactor or by walking.
- Repeat the mist-and-compact cycle for best firmness.
Color longevity
Pink fades slightly over the first year as the surface weathers — settles into a soft rose-tan that holds indefinitely. UV doesn't bleach the underlying granite, just the surface fines.
Buying tips
- Sample a small bag at the yard before committing to multiple tons — pink is a strong color and varies in tone from delivery to delivery.
- Edge with steel edging instead of BendaBoard — the cleaner edge sharpens the decorative effect.
- Don't over-water during compaction. Heavy water washes the pink fines out and leaves a more neutral surface.
